Happy Birthday Funky Carter Mixes!

Do you know what I find exciting? If you answered “no”, then thank Christ, because I would hate to think that any of you might be mind-readers. That would be frightening. Since I don’t actually believe in ESP, however, I’ll just come out and tell you that I am pleased as pumpkin pie that we are now less than thirty days away from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned the movie on here or not, but for those of you unfamiliar, it’s a small, Korean drama that debuted to rave reviews at Sundance this year.

Speaking of The Matinee, I still don’t have a Beej for Hire excerpt ready for you. I also have less than a week to finish this goddamn thing, but whatever; I live for the challenge, I’ve got the touch, I give 110%, etc. Depending on how quickly I finish off this little post, maybe I can crank out some more before bed.

On a more positive note, however (and lest you think I’ve been slacking), I am happy to announce that the Funky Carter 2008 Spring Mix is done and ready for anyone who wants a copy. Which I’m guessing is no one outside of Kate, but it doesn’t matter, because compiling them makes me happy. I am doubly excited this time around, however, because the 2008 Spring CD marks two years that I have been making these seasonal mix CDs, and I want to wish them a happy birthday.

If you haven’t been around the Funky Carter block, the Funky Carter Mixes were born in spring of 2006 when I decided to compile a CD to give as a contest prize. I had so much fun making it that I decided to compile another one in the summer, and it’s become a regular feature of the blog ever since. Of course, as I said, no one really gives much of a hoot other than me, but that’s really not why I make them. Yes, initially my intent was to use them as a way of spreading new music that I was excited about, but now they are primarily just an excuse for me to seek out new songs, rediscover old ones, and also indulge my love of mix making. It is an art form, nerds. One that is often poorly practiced, but an art form nevertheless.

Anyway, if you would like a CD, or even if you’d just like to say that you received mail from the Funky Carter Offices, drop me a request in the comments, and I’ll get an address from you (if I need one). As a special bonus, I’ll include the 2008 Winter Mix, which I never actually got around to mailing out (as of now, Mara and I are the only two people to have heard it). And as if all that wasn’t enough, the Spring Mix is extra awesome: It’s perfect warm weather music, it’s got a track from Wolf Parade’s forthcoming yet-to-be-named sophomore album (which I am almost as excited for as I am the new Indiana Jones movie), and as always, it’s mixed just perfectly, if I do say so. Your ears will thank you. And then they will ask to marry me. And with a heavy heart, I will say no.

Note: Speaking of mail, I know that I am grossly — and I mean grossly — overdue in sending out prize packages to various people. You are not forgotten. Which is not to say that you will be getting them in the near future, but I’m just saying.

  2. I was listening to 2007 spring mix in the new car because I had no new mix. I thought you’d forgotten us, Ace. Please send a copy ASAP. Heck with those other people and sending them things. Send me mine!
I told all the kids in the dorm last night that Indy was less than 30 days away. They did not care. Suckers.

  3. I would love a spring mix, but since I never received the winter mix that I said I would also love, I’m not holding my breath. ;-) I’m sure it’s excellent, though.

  4. Awesome! I would love to get a copy of your mix(es). You seem to have pretty good taste in music (and some other stuff), so let’s put it to the test. Your reputation is on the line.

Courtney and I will share, though, and we live at the same address anyway.

  5. I’m pretty sure that I have no idea what any of those bands are. Maybe you could make my life easy and just mail my prize package to the winners of my latest contest, because I’m sorely deficient in sending them on.

  6. Ooooh I’m soo excited about the New “Indy” flick. Ace, I would love to have a copy of the new funky carter spring mix!! Please and Thank You!!

  7. Send it to me please, I’m in need of new music and I promise I’ll spare you from having to know which ones I have had to listen to at work incessantly. I’ll just skip those.

  8. not to be all up on your grill rude, but this will be my third request for a mix cd. i hope this one actually comes. ;-) i also requested the FC spring and fall mixes…I think.
