Let’s be candid for a moment: you and I both know that I’m not going to go 31 straight days without at least a few total blow-off YouTube posts. I’m a busy man, and I have a lot of New York Business ™ to attend to. Rest assured however, that when those posts do come along, I will be providing you with some really classy, high quality entertainment. Thoughtfully curated, handpicked selections of important video artifacts.
Speaking of which, when was the last time you watched the video for Bobby Brown’s “On Our Own” from Ghostbusters 2?
Yes, Halloween is a time for scary movies and weird, orange candies, to be sure, but it is also the season for New Jack raps about ghosts and the difficulty of handling items that are somehow simultaneously both too hot and too cold to contend with. Speaking of “hot,” here’s my hot take for today: “On Our Own” is a much better song than “Ghostbusters.” Come at me, Ray Parker Jr. superfans. To be clear, Ghostbusters 2 itself is a bland slog through a swamp of late 80s boredom. This song, however, totally rocks.
Also rocking: the accompanying promo video, which features asymmetrical hair, leather caps, pre-Giuliani Times Square, and an incredibly bizarre assortment of “celebrity” cameos, including Christopher Reeve, Jane Curtain, Iman, The Ramones, and future 45th President of the United States Donald Trump. In other words, it’s amazing. Enjoy.
